About
What Shtus is
Shtus is a Jewish news site made of short explainer videos. Each video takes one story, shows where it happened, and explains why it matters in about 90 seconds. Under every video you get a plain-text summary, the sources, and a list of how we made it.
We aim to be useful to readers across the Jewish community. We report what sources said and attribute it. We do not tell you what to think.
Editorial standards
- Every claim on screen has a source. The source appears on the video card and in the list under the video. When a number comes from a group with a stake in the story, we say whose count it is.
- We label illustrations and AI voice. Maps, charts and cards are illustrations. Narration uses an AI voice, and we say so on every story page and on screen.
- We say whose numbers they are. When we report a group's own claims, we say so on screen.
- We correct mistakes openly. Corrections are listed with the date on the Corrections page. We do not edit a story quietly.
- We do not name private individuals. We name public officials and institutions. We do not name private people in stories about disputes or crimes.
What we do not do
- We do not run ads, analytics or third-party scripts on this site.
- We do not copy text or photos from other outlets. We link to them.
